I was never like the rest of them. I was different and people did t like that. I guess people will always be jealous of what they aren't, because to all of them... being yourself just isn't enough. Why you may ask? Well, I haven't quite figured that one out myself. It all began with a woman that I sadly call mother. Her name was Hotaru, her name should give it all away from the start. She was pure darkness and suffering in one person. But in all honesty... I had potty on Hotaru. For someone to be so cruel and ruthless, I could only imagine what they were going through in order to become that way. But on the other hand, she could just be plain evil, and that's what I was starting to believe. After I turned five years I of age, my world completely changed. In our so-called shack of a house, it was just Hotaru and I, giving Hotaru the perfect opportunity to take her anger out on me. Every day after her trip to who knows where, she started making a routine of daily beatings. Her patience was short. Very short. I would get these daily beatings for things of no importance. She found a stain on her clothes, the dishes were not correctly placed, her tea became cold, and the list just keeps on going. After some beatings, I would go days without being able to properly walk, and it became hard to breathe with the increasing number of bruises that covered my body. It was becoming easier to say after each day, that i was beginning to hate her. What did I ever do to deserve such a life? The question struck me like a brick, and realization dawned on me... As I ran up the mountain towards the bewildering forest ahead of me, I never once looked back. Freedom was only a few steps away. My name is Mei Tamashiro. A name I never knew held so much power, until the land of the rising sun was aflame.
