Dani Coleman is one of the many middle schoolers that was shot in the school shooting. She was the first to recover, and her friend, Nicole Capsle, is still in the hospital after getting shot in the stomach. Dani tried to recover from both the injury and trauma, while also being there for her friend.

It's been a year since the war ended, since her father was defeated, and since she was locked up. She was ready to give up on everything, but when an unexpected visitor arrives, she decides that maybe, just maybe, she shouldn't. Along with a few surprises on the way, will she change for the better? Or will she be forever stuck on her old beliefs?
