"Open your eyes" the shrill sound of Sean's voice met my ears again where I stood, lids tightly shut. If only I could just reach down and get it,but I couldnt. I couldn't even move an inch. I didnt want to disappoint him here, not in front of her. "Viola, open your eyes" He ordered coolly again which sent chills down my spine, making me shudder. Why did this have to happen when we were right in the middle of an extremely important presentation? Happenings like these only gave my colleagues more reasons to call me incompetent. I heard him sigh from the other end of the room which made my insides shake. I just stood before the projector and the board of directors and contractors. More tears stung as I detected the hint of plea in his voice. Still,I couldnt open my eyes,no matter what. **** Living her life, finding the love of her life and then getting married was the primary aim in the life of Ariana Willows,Lady of Philadelphia. ...and then we-well, we did the best we could with the time that was left us. We lived at the rate of ten thousand a year. We had the best of everything...Of course it was the pace-don't you call it?-that killed. We were neither of us young, and we knew we couldn't stand it for long, so we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, believe me, sir, thoroughly. - Marjorie Bowen, from "Raw Material," Kecksies and Other Twilight Tales (Arkham House, 1976)
