Based on Maggie Stiefvater's "The Scorpio Races," Blood of the Sea is a prequel telling how the capaill uisce came to be, and how the Scorpio Races began. *YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ THE BOOK TO UNDERSTAND THIS*

Tomorrow is November 1st. Tomorrow, out on that beach, someone will die. The November sea is all the colors of the blackened capall uisce now leaving it-dark and smoky and grey and black and blue. Even though the sun shines above, the water is still frigid when it splashes me. The uisce stallion rears high, crying out mightily, baring his teeth. The song of the capaill echoes in the cove, mystifying a man I don't know near me and placing him in the possession of the water horse. The capall slams his hooves down, inches away from the man, and breathes down his neck. A crack, then a snap and the man is crumpled on the sand in a heap. Spots of red stain the pristine white beach and the horse's long face. So deadly, yet so beautiful. How could a creature be so harshly beautiful, with the wind in its mane and the sea dripping down its legs, but so dangerous? Based upon The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. Mordecai Ruthers had always looked a little weird. Her pointed ears, high cheekbones, and big, sparkling eyes gave her an unusually elfish appearance. One night, Mordecai had some friends over and they decided to play Truth or Dare. She was dared to go into the gypsy tent in the farmers market, and get her fortune read. According to the stories, the gypsy was young, pretty, and could do a lot more with her life that what she was doing now. Of course, that's just what her mother said. What everybody knew, though, is that the gypsy's readings were always correct, no matter how absurd they sounded. Always. So what happens when Mordecai's odd looks are explained?

Starting with revenge for her parents but leading into respect for the fierce creatures, she has made a name for herself by being one of the very few who can train them for the annual games that take place during this time, when the brave and foolish of heart dare to get on the back of a capall. But Skylar's starting to wonder if maybe she should leave the island.Things are happening that no one can explain. Jace Rainier has had enough of the world. His parents no longer seem to care, and his brother is off in his own life. The stables that once meant so much to him are now changing him into a laughing stock at school. Academics and parties and sports are turning into a broken record with no meaning, and Jace sets off for a secluded, mysterious little island on the east coast named _________ for a change of scenery, with only a cryptic clue stolen from his mother's attic and the hope that he can find a peaceful place to start over.
