Shell shocked. What happens when the new Doctor sees through his Bosses facade of peace? What happened to Stefano Esposito, and will they be able to help him regain the peace he desperately tries to imitate? I wanted to push mental health into the forefront and write a short story centred around PTSD. Shell shock, now known as PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, was coined by soldiers during the first World War. Caused by sustaining trauma, during the war treatments were scare and unhelpful. Treatments often included electric shock, or oftentimes, being shot point blank because soldiers were too cowardly to continue. Symptoms of PTSD vary, but often include fatigue, temors, confusion, nightmares, impared sight and/or hearing, and flashbacks to name a few. It leaves people will life long scars, many that they will never fully heal from.
