Alex Karev is a third-year resident at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, trying to balance his demanding work as a doctor with the weight of his personal life. Feeling the pressure, everything changes when Autumn, his niece who he hasn't seen in six years, suddenly appears outside the hospital, passed out on the sidewalk. He's suddenly responsible for caring for a young girl with cystic fibrosis, which he didn't even know she had. Alex must navigate the challenges of a new role while also pursuing his own goals. As he gets to know Autumn better, Alex discovers she's a sweet-hearted kid, despite her health troubles. Will he be able to find the balance he needs and will he be able to help Autumn overcome her challenges?
