Charles Acton and Leonhard Von Hinten are two sons of the aristocracy. The first Englishman, the second Prussian, they meet at the Hotel Adlon in Berlin in 1932 and a burning passion soon ignites between the two. Their stories are intertwined with those of Agathe Shwartz and Albert Weinrich, two young Berlin proletarians overwhelmed by the economic crisis. Separated by the rise of the Nazis and forced on opposite sides by the Second World War, the four face every adversity to find each other again, crossing war-plagued Europe.
