It's a new year for Sam at Stildegar school for Fae. After the events of the last one, agents of the Faction have told him to buck up his ideas academically or be booted out of school. Sam is determined to stay, study and focus solely on his school work- not on boys. More importantly, not on one particular Vampire boy.

But things have changed in the world of Fae. The Vampires are on the edge of civil war, with two political factions threatening to tear the world apart. This causes Stildegar to become more divided than ever- with the leader of one faction, Blood Rising, taking a particular interest in Stildegar, Sam and his friends.

Sam finds her motivations sinister and her interest in Sunny rather strange, but the world of the vampire is lost on him. The only person he can turn to ends up being the one person he absolutely, definitely needs to stay away from. Elliot Iona knew Vampires, his family was ancient and their traditions even older. With the rest of the Vampire Initiates refusing to speak to other Fae- Sam has to contact his ex.
