Dani left the room as the card lit up. His correspondence with Narin was brief and he came back with a perplexed smile on his face.
"He agreed, enthusiastically...but he wanted us to meet in Gilgannis first. I offered to do it in a few days to allow Cadrith some time to prepare before we see each other again, but he refused and said the sooner the better. He was...very nice to me" Dani sat back down on the couch and leaned back in thought "we're never nice to each other, never have been. Even as children we argued and fought, although saying that if I am honest- it added to our passion"
"Why didn't you two get married?" Sam asked.
"Ah we were just kids, then our lives took very different paths. We were never in a relationship...it was sort of a , what do you lot call it? A one night stand?"
"So it only happened one night?" Sunny teased.
"Goodness no. Elves don't conceive so easily, I would sneak out of my house every weekend, get the train from Cilvari to Gilgannis and climb into his window. Went on for years until one day I'm taking the entrance exam to Pechari College and I felt this god's awful pain drilling down into my...butt. I screamed into a towel in the men's room for twenty minutes and then finished the test, three days later I had Cadrith in that very same bathroom"
"What did you do after that?" the vampire pressed on with interest.
"I wrapped the elfling up in the towel and carried him ...well, I sort of crawled to my mentor and he guessed what happened. He promised not to report me, half an hour later the Faction shows up and takes my details and my baby. He'll be hm...453 years old now."
"I hate the faction," Sam said loudly to Sunny's agreement.
"I hate it but love it. I see the good... I wanted to help things change. I didn't want people to be judged so harshly, to be seen only through the narrow point of view of an elf. Hence why I petitioned for whence-they-came to be abolished" Dani sighed wistfully.
"Well thank god you did or I'd be well fucked by now...and that's why we're going to help you reconnect with your son! You've saved my life like four times, and we're young...your son is young- we can bond and put in a good word for you!"
"453 is kinda old Sam" Sunny piped up "but for an elf I'm guessing it's not? How old were you when you had him?"
Dani turned pink again and shook his head.
"It...um, you know I can't remember"
"Too young? And to think you called me a 'player'" Sam laughed as the elf squirmed
"But I do appreciate this Sam...please don't expect too much from him though. If Cadrith doesn't want this to move any further, we have to accept his decision"
Sunny and Sam agreed. The rest of the day Dani ran around the house skittish and riddled with anxiety, he couldn't sit for long and opted to do some gardening instead. Even Sam was beginning to feel worried, nervous that he had pushed for something that could break Dani's heart.
"What are you getting Hildy for Christmas? I bought her a cauldron from this place in Vista during one of my little outings from Garstadt...anyway it's made from pure cake and every time you throw some ingredient in it, it turns it into a cupcake. Imagine that weed she loves as a cupcake! I think I will win best present of the year award personally"
"That sounds cool...and expensive," Sam grimaced. He didn't want to take advantage of Dani's generosity.
"Oh it was but I have dead family money to throw around. Maybe you could get her a new belt, her other one looks as old as hell and you know she needs a utility belt for all her witch shit she carries everywhere"
