One day, Adelaide sees a carrier pigeon with a letter addressed to her. It flies away when she tries to pick it up and the pigeon leads her to the edge of human territory, which is about seven miles from her home. She then bumps into Oliver, who becomes her best friend. When her mother discovers she is writing letters to a dragon, she kicks Adelaide out. Little does she know that she kicked Adelaide out just as the Council was planning an attack on Adelaide's city. Adelaide and Oliver must find the Parliament of Peace and get them to help Adelaide's home town. Can they help stop the war in time to save both of their families from being killed by the other species?
