Haley Edwards and James Stevens were in love. The key-word here is were. James died in a car accident, and one year later, Haley is still as devastated as she was the day it happened. Now it is one year after James's accident, and with Haley missing James more now than ever, it doesn't seem like she can take much more heartache. And, with her parents in the midst of divorce themselves, it seems like the effects of living in a broken family can only hurt Haley more. Just when it seems Haley's life will have hit rock-bottom, Sawyer Wainwright show up to theatre class. He is clever, sarcastic, and unbelievably cute. From the day Haley met Sawyer, he had made it clear that he was interested in being more than friends. He brings out the best in her and makes her feel special, and, most importantly, takes her mind off of her parents' divorce. Haley wants more than anything to like Sawyer as more than a friend, but knows that a heartbreak by him will just add onto the pain that James left behind with her and make it even more intense. Haley must learn to cope with her new life in two homes, figure out what feelings she has for Sawyer, and all the while continue to mourn James and keep his memory alive.
