Quentin Coldwater's thirteenth encounter with The Beast. This time, Jane Chatwin arranged for his rejection from Brakebills to see if falling in with Hedges would better prepare him to face the inevitable horror of The Beast.

From the moment Quinton recieved the 6th story of Filory, the beast finds him, Quinton unaware hes being looked for and followed. As Quinton starts to run to catch one one of the pages of Filory that blew out of his hands, the beast right behind him to make the kill he follows him through the bushes and find himself to be at Brakebill and stats to to wonder what he has stumbled himself into. Quinton out of the beasts sight ready to take the test to enroll at Brakebills, the beast looked left to right but couldnt see Quinton, he steps back out through the bushes to see if he may have gone a different direction but as soon as he wants to go back to brakebills again, the magic leading there was gone and finds himself at the gate where Quinton ran threw first to catch the missing page of his story. The Beast finds the page and right before he burns the page he reads his life comes to an end. He returns back to Filory trying to look for a passage to Brakebills, and he finds one. Quinton and Alice trying to contacted her lost brothers spirit opening a portal not knowing where and forget to close it. The following day while theyre in class the beast freezes time and comes out of the portal, he waits patiently for the dean to come in, to cripple him so he can insert himself to the dean of Brakebills,the beast realized what type of school brakesbill was and what he can do with it. the beast returns himself into Filory time continues, Quinton and Alice realize what they have done and there professor helped the close the portal. no one had suspicions of what had happen to the dean, he got hospitalized. after his visit with Jane Chatwon the beast found his way to the dean in his room, fixed him right up just so he can take over his body. next day Jane getting ready to give a speech to notify the students what happen,til she sees the dean walking in, which she found unbelievable and impossible, as soon as she came to realize who he was,time freezes oneminute before the time loop

Entry into the Battle The Beast contest. Quentin and his friends have battled The Beast 39 other times before their current fight. A look into the 38th attempt.

The Magicians come into possession of a book of spells written by an unknown author. Its pages made of special parchment that is so powerful it is immune to being destroyed. The only problem--the words are written in a language and symbols not known to man--leading them to believe the book is cloaked in a spell to disguise its true words to the naked eye. So certain that the book contains something that will help them defeat the beast, they search for a way to unveil its language. Having no luck with uncloaking spells, they began looking for a different solution. After weeks of searching ,as well as much trial and error, they finally acquire a magical object(thanks to Lovelady) known as 'The Glass of Translation'. An object that when held above any words or symbols-known, unknown or even made up-would manifest itself in the language best known to the person that held it. It is by this they come across a spell sure to help them in their quest to fight the beast.

Quinten and Julia made it into Brakebills University. They've followed the Garden Path and have learned so much. It isn't without heartbreak, but when an old friend calls through Penny for help, perhaps they can make this experience as close to perfect as possible.
