Caroline Forbes has been in love with her best friend Stefan Salvatore but has been too scared to tell him how she feels, afraid of rejection, afraid that he will say he only thinks about her as just a friend. When she had enough courage to tell Stefan that she wanted more he panicked and left without a word.
