                 Alaric looked at her with quiet surprise that she knew so little , though he supposed he should not have been.  They were much the same in that regard — both souls lost in unfamiliar times.  He reached up to rub the back of his head before letting out a soft sigh.  “ Well . . .  this is what comes of wandering off on my own , ”  he said with a faint shake of his head.  “ I cannot say I care much for . . .  what do they call it ?  The future ?  It is a strange place indeed.  I cannot even begin to understand those odd glowing blocks everyone carries about these days. ”

Elizabeth tried to keep the modern world off of her mind for well.. good reason.  That’s why she has her technical advisor.. he’s a modern kid.. turned vampire.                  Honestly , Veridus thought little of her crimson eyes.  On Rubicon , such a sight wasn’t entirely unusual — especially among the earlier generations of augmented pilots , from the first through fourth generations.  Technically , they weren’t truly red;  rather , tiny fragments of Coral drifted within their eyes , giving them that distinct , unnatural hue.  “ Are you certain ? ”  he asked , studying her carefully.  “ You keep blinking.  Is something wrong with your eye ?  An infection , perhaps ?  I can find someone to help if you need it. ”
