Everybody talks about looking back at your old writing and realising it's trash because you've improved so much since then. But people rarely talk about looking back at your writing and thinking, "Wow, I can't believe I wrote this masterpiece. I haven't written anything good in 3 years. I may never write anything good ever again."

The most unfortunate part of liking media with a large main cast is it is damn near impossible to find fans who like or truly understand half, let alone all, of the cast. Frequently, you'll find fans who really get Character A, but hearing anything they have to say about Character B gives you brain damage. Even worse when two or more characters are frequently done dirty in the fandom and you realise finding a safe space for one does not mean you've found a safe space for the others.

Woah... So, it's highly likely most of my readers are not my followers. But, regardless, I'm throwing out thanks into the universe for the 10+ reads I've gotten on the three books I've published these past few weeks.

I'm currently in a state of creative apathy where I just publish half-baked ideas or old works I don't know what to do with. So I'm a bit baffled cuz I've seen books with more effort get less people to peek inside. But I genuinely appreciate it nonetheless ❤️

@0jamajo I'd planned on updating my next-gen concepts two weeks after I published the first two parts, but I've been too empty-headed to finish the Skloom chapter lmao. But every time I think it's fallen low enough in the main tag and ranks to go unnoticed, it gets another 1-2 reads. But I'm lowkey positive that it'll stop when I publish the next part cuz that's the kind of luck I got lollol

WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN THERE’S A LIMIT TO THE TAGS YOU CAN BLOCK FROM YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS????

@stellaisastar That's so real. I honestly think the period between 2017 and 2019 was the peak of my Wattpad experience, then it gradually started going downhill from there. I feel like I mostly come here when I'm bored af or want somewhere to throw my underdeveloped first drafts lol

@0jamajo that's so annoying. for me, i keep getting recommended either genres i don't like or the most a.i generated crap that i keep having to block. the last time i think i really enjoyed wattpad was probably 2018/2019.

@stellaisastar I don't even know how long this has been the case tbh. I just went to block a ship tag because Watty kept showing me fics with it on my homepage. And that's when I found out I'd apparently hit the limit (10 tags). But I think it's fair to assume Wattpad has very little desire to actually make its users' reading experiences pleasant.

Wattpad has such a completely and utterly useless filter and recommendation system.

I'll literally mute or block an account after reading the description of exactly one story. Only for my homepage to start recommending 18 of their books under "Stories from writers you love" even though I literally cannot view the stories with them blocked.

This has happened to me 3 times in the past few months.

One of the many reasons Wattpad could never compare to Ao3. If I tell Ao3 to mute an author, all of their works get blasted from my view, with only a note at the top to say some works may not be visible because I muted them. Good.

"Shh~ I can fix you. I can make you sooo good," I say as I pull up two separate documents, each filled with word vomit, and continue plotting my Winx Club and Batman rewrites respectively. "When I'm done, you'll be at least 75% better. Just trust me bro." (I am not to be trusted.)

Yorghurt1234

@0jamajo Then you end up writing a 50K word fic and it's up on the internet for all the world to see (I, too, am not to be trusted).

Seriously though, some fics are super good, it's really cool when people post their work and work on it along the way. It's just for the fun of it, and there's something really human and wholesome about it.
