Wattpad has such a completely and utterly useless filter and recommendation system.

I'll literally mute or block an account after reading the description of exactly one story. Only for my homepage to start recommending 18 of their books under "Stories from writers you love" even though I literally cannot view the stories with them blocked.

This has happened to me 3 times in the past few months.

One of the many reasons Wattpad could never compare to Ao3. If I tell Ao3 to mute an author, all of their works get blasted from my view, with only a note at the top to say some works may not be visible because I muted them. Good.

"Shh~ I can fix you. I can make you sooo good," I say as I pull up two separate documents, each filled with word vomit, and continue plotting my Winx Club and Batman rewrites respectively. "When I'm done, you'll be at least 75% better. Just trust me bro." (I am not to be trusted.)

Trying to edit and format drafts on Wattpad mobile is its very own circle of hell. I highlight one word and align it centre. It works for all of three minutes before the alignment of the entire chapter also becomes centre. And then I turn into Sisyphus, trying in vain to format every line and paragraph, but I can never finish because I keep having to go back and fix the same lines and paragraphs!!!!

And this is why I edit everything on desktop smh. If it looks like ass on mobile then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Finally got around to pirating the first 13 episodes of the Winx reboot, and... Tbh, I actually enjoyed watching it more than I ever enjoyed watching anything from seasons 5-8 of the original series. That probably has to do with the fact that it's a full reboot rather than a retcon or continuation. It never set out to align itself strongly with the original series, so changes feel a lot less irritating and easier to accept.

It's not my new favourite show or anything. There's jarring animation issues, especially when characters have to move swiftly. I wanted to bash my head against the wall whenever the fairies flew or a character tried to dance, because it looked BAD. And changes to the plot/characters/worldbuilding ranged from being neutral to being far less compelling than the original (tho not necessarily bad in every case). But while I'd have preferred to have Riven return to his role as "villains' pawn" instead of Damien; and I disliked that Musa seemed more concerned with her dad than her own love of music, and god herself couldn't convince me to accept this take on Tecna... I didn't hate the show for these things. I was still entertained enough to keep watching. Also, the physical affection between the Winx was really cute at times. And there were things that made me smile fondly or laugh. And I lowkey want to write fanfiction based specifically on the reboot now lol

Anyway, I might do a full breakdown of my thoughts someday. But for now... 6/10. Not crazy about it, but I didn't hate it.

@MoriahWinxfan Oh. I was so confused trying to find what special thing she said about Bloom's power lol

My heart goes out to the Italian Winx fan who said they couldn't have faith in english-speaking fans to "fix" the show because they never watched it in the first place. Cuz, as one of the "anglo-btches" in question, I don't even have faith in the english-speaking fans to fix the english version(s), let alone the original lmao.

You ever completely lose interest in a fic because the way it described a character you love was just an automatic dealbreaker?

I was reading a Batfam fic because the premise was intriguing. Characterisation wasn't entirely to my taste, but it was passable... Until it described Dick Grayson as a man-child. Immediately lost all interest in continuing.

I just hate how the fandom constantly infantilises this grown man because he dares to value a genial attitude beyond the age of 17. Nevermind the fact that he's a great detective, has been a reliable leader of multiple teams since he was 16, and is more emotionally intelligent than most in his family. It's just so annoying to see the constant flattening and belittling of such a multi-faceted and influencial character.

@0jamajo i honestly love that people are starting to go back to the 'don't like, don't read' mindset for fanfics again.

i feel like i used to be more vicious with bloom bashing when i was younger and at writing on wattpad the first time around, but now i'd say i've *kind of* mellowed out. she does still pmo though bahaha and i don't think i can hide it. (interested to hear any thoughts you have on 'violets' but especially when i get around to rewriting 'poppies' soon - hopefully by the end of summer.)

i've been watching a lot of shows recently to distract me from my studies and it's like there's a pull drawing me to the smaller fandoms. and i love that they're usually quite tight-knit but there's also one interpretation of a character that reigns. which i usually can't stand. so then i get it in my head that one day, eventually, i'll be bothered to write a few fics of my own for that character - tho i never do.

@stellaisastar And you're valid, you know? I think fic writers can write characters however the hell they want. But that doesn't mean I have to stick around if I don't personally vibe with it. (On a side note, my tolerance for Bloom bashing varies. I don't particularly love her, but I don't hate her either. So I'm kinda always in a weird middle ground of being open to some slander but not too much. I'm still planning to read Violets tho.)

Oh, it's endless. No matter where I go. If a character is good-humoured or has some whimsy, fan spaces feel compelled to treat them like a precious little idiot. But I always remind myself that violence isn't the answer, and the back button is always there to shield me. It's just unfortunate that smaller fandoms limit your reading options :/

@0jamajo i feel youu. honestly i'm in a lot of smaller fandoms these days so it's not like i'm spoiled for choice with fics but when they hate on my faves i just have to click out. in all fairness, i've probably annoyed a lot of people with the way i've written certain characters in my fics too - like bloom or some others - so i feel like i'm being a teensy bit hypocritical whoops– even though i do attempt to be unbiased and accurate in my writing

not too familiar with the batman fandom but it's something that i notice a lot too, the way people reduce more positive characters as being childish/stupid while ignoring their other traits. it's hard not to find a fic in one of my recent fandoms where my fav guy isn't lobotomised :')

New transformations for the Winx Club reboot dropped a while ago. Still gathering my thoughts on them, but what do you guys think?

@Specialists_WinxClub hmmm the new transformation song, one to one (Riven's and Musa's duet in season 6) and more that I don't remember the titles of it

I absolutely LOVE it when I'm reading a fic and it establishes that a Winx and Specialist (who aren't dating) are really good friends. It would be nice if they weren't usually childhood friends, but I still really appreciate the male-female friendships!

stellaisastar

@Specialists_WinxClub i think the rarest i've seen might have been stella and helia, and i don't think i've seen that friendship portrayed ever since!
