Finally got around to pirating the first 13 episodes of the Winx reboot, and... Tbh, I actually enjoyed watching it more than I ever enjoyed watching anything from seasons 5-8 of the original series. That probably has to do with the fact that it's a full reboot rather than a retcon or continuation. It never set out to align itself strongly with the original series, so changes feel a lot less irritating and easier to accept.
It's not my new favourite show or anything. There's jarring animation issues, especially when characters have to move swiftly. I wanted to bash my head against the wall whenever the fairies flew or a character tried to dance, because it looked BAD. And changes to the plot/characters/worldbuilding ranged from being neutral to being far less compelling than the original (tho not necessarily bad in every case). But while I'd have preferred to have Riven return to his role as "villains' pawn" instead of Damien; and I disliked that Musa seemed more concerned with her dad than her own love of music, and god herself couldn't convince me to accept this take on Tecna... I didn't hate the show for these things. I was still entertained enough to keep watching. Also, the physical affection between the Winx was really cute at times. And there were things that made me smile fondly or laugh. And I lowkey want to write fanfiction based specifically on the reboot now lol
Anyway, I might do a full breakdown of my thoughts someday. But for now... 6/10. Not crazy about it, but I didn't hate it.
