I think this Platform will help you a lot in polishing your work. We live in difficult times. Some people are only to happy to cling on to stereotypes fed by irresponsible media. I feel your work gives hope to young generations and promotes peace. It's not an easy thing to do and I congratulate you for that. I suggest you keep up the same path because it really is needed in this world. Wish you all the best in life.

          Dear Michelle:
Lastly 哈哈: I find that bicultural people like yourself become aware of this when they date and, most importantly, when they decide to raise kids. Maybe you've read Tiger mom, I think it describes the situation to some extent. Anyway, just a random thought. And now for some Chinglish: add oil!

          Dear Michelle:
Glad you liked my comment. I forgot to add 2 things. One: your new cover depicts more clearly what you are doing with your work than the original one. At first glance I thought your work would be one more historical piece. (I know your mom doesn't see it that way). Also, I like the title but I have some doubts about it, because it doesn't show you are actually trying to find a Chinese gentleman. I was fooled by this at first too. I thought your book would trace the life of a particular gentleman. Just a thought. It's just both the title and the cover are so important to selling the book and getting more readers, plus they induce some preconceived thoughts about the genre and the time frame where the action will take place...Finally, about that chaper 31: not sure if you were clear in your head about what was happening and what your motivations were. Maybe the facts are still not clear to you and that's why you found hard putting it in writing. Just a thought there too. So, waiting for a yummy update!

@AdrianaGonzlez6 wah thank you for the very comprehensive feedback Anna. the book used to be called from stilettos to flip flops. but I wanted Chinese Gentleman in there somewhere. currently brainstorming new ideas. do let me know if any ideas come to u. now back to chapter 32 for me :)

让你久等了,不好意思。I've thought about your question and I find no fault in your writing. I like how you sound so authentic. I like all the cultural insights and how you are trying to find yourself and telling all about it, describing all your prospects and analyzing them. Don't know if you've read Prozac Nation but I think that the author described her generation's angst, and you are doing the same thing in your own way. I specially liked the part where you described the friends who lead 2 very different lifestyles and how you are choosing between them. So 加油。

wah thank you for the thoughtful response Anna. i totally did not expect this. i was only asking about chapter 31, but you gave me so much more! thank you. i will add oil for chapter 32!. muahahahaha. xoxo - michelle

wow anna, you can write so much Chinese! thanks for the lengthy comment. i love reading comments. that's interesting you mentioned the cover. i quite liked the old cover b/c it felt representative of the history and culture that come up in 1/3 of the stories. but the colour was a bit dull so i switched to a more vibrant one (much to my mother's dismay. she liked the old one :)

it's also really interesting that you mentioned my perspective as neither chinese nor western. lol. i feel like an inbetweener a lot of times. all of us do. asians who half grew up in china and half grew up in the west. if you drew a venn diagram, one circle representing china, one circle representing canada, people like me would be inside the sliver where the two circles overlap. at times you feel like you belong nowhere, but other times you're grateful that you have deep access to both cultures. b/c i've been in canada for so long, cultural identity doesn't even bother me anymore. i don't even question whether i'm more chinese or canadian. i don't really care. it only came up, and hit me in the face, when i started dating seriously. or trying to date seriously. then i became acutely aware of the cultural divide all over again.
