I have most my creations tormented throughout their lives for two reasons only. One, to built character and for the plot. And two, because if I don't, they become cold hearted, murderous, little creatures who fear nothing and will do anything in their power to protect their loved ones. Even if it means the cost of others lives and the downfall of kingdoms.
