As a young girl growing up in the 1960's , my first love was Science Fiction and Fantasy. And my big dream was to become the author of a novel. Back then, few people publicly acknowledged that they wanted to become writers and few pursued it. But I worked hard, practiced writing and studied for many years, always to be told that I should do something more practical. And, out of necessity, I did, working many jobs from retail sales clerk, to marketing software, to ultimately ending up in Information Technology, always putting off my dream of becoming a writer.
Here I'm introducing the first novel I wrote back in 1979. This was before women were allowed to serve on a US submarine, or be an Air Force Pilot. This was before Buffy the Vampire Slayer or before Xena Warrior Princess. Before then, even when I saw Star Wars for the first time, the message was clear. The only way to be a leading character in popular science fiction tale was to be a princess to be rescued. I wanted to write something different. So I wrote about a young, fairly poor, woman who became Governor of California, caught up in an extraordinary set of circumstances.
I hope you enjoy reading what I wrote.
