The Sectors are ruled by twelve Presidents elected by an elite group. Algorithms decide where people live, what jobs they do, and who they marry. Class is geographically segregated, whereby the poor and middle class live in the Inland, while the wealthy live on the Coasts. In this world where in utero genetic editing to prevent disease is mandated by the government, a rift exists between genetically modified humans (Modifieds) and those whose parents chose not to have them genetically modified (Purebreds).
