“Why are you always looking at me like I’m your last nerve and your biggest regret?” Andrea muttered, eyes still glued to her notes.
Across the library table, Amin didn’t flinch. “Because you are. My last nerve. Definitely not a regret, though.”
Andrea finally looked up, and Amin had that same lazy smirk — the one that made her want to smack him and kiss him at the same time.
He twirled a pencil between his fingers, leaning back in the chair like he owned the place. “Tell me something, Andrea. How does it feel to be so painfully in love with me but still in denial?”
She snorted. “How does it feel to live in a fantasy where you think that hair gel and misplaced confidence make you irresistible?”
“That wasn't a denial.”
“Shut up, Amin.”
He stood up slowly, palms on the table, leaning over until his face was inches from hers. The teasing dropped from his voice, just a little. “You can lie to yourself. But not to me.”
Andrea hated the way her heart reacted — traitorous, loud, fluttering like pages in a storm. He smelled like mint and trouble. The exact type of chaos she promised herself she'd avoid after last summer.
But then—
Her phone buzzed. A single notification.
She looked down. Froze.
Her face drained of all color.
Amin noticed instantly. “What is it?” he asked, voice dropping low.
Andrea didn’t answer. She just stood, quietly packed her books, and whispered, “This isn’t over.”
Amin grabbed her wrist. “Hey—”
But she didn’t meet his eyes.
