Hey everyone!
After two long years, I'm back! It's been a wild time, but I've grown in so many ways that are going to be reflected in some changes I'm making on this account:
1. I've removed the swearing filter. "Cuss words" are just words: a way to express one's thoughts/feelings. Go crazy!
2. I'm adding a new "Diversity" category to my reviews. Over the past two years, I've been able to better understand the importance of representation in media. Even as a POC, I've been oblivious to way that white media has largely influenced society. Even my pseudonym, which I picked out 3 years ago, is a traditionally white name. However, I've decided to keep it because I feel that it shows how I've grown from hiding behind a white facade to being confident in my non-white identity. Also, I may or may not just be too lazy to find another name :)
3. I will not be taking requests anymore. Instead, I'll be taking recommendations. The main difference is that with a request, I'm somewhat obligated to read the book and review it. With a recommendation, I read the book at my own pace. I re-started this account not because I have less work (if anything, I have more) but rather because I've learned how to better manage my time. I feel like this will only be enjoyable to me if I'm able to do it at my own pace.
If any of these changes don't make sense to you, that's ok! This account is a place for me to express myself, which means it should be run on my terms. At the same time, I fully expect the community to hold me responsible if I ever cross a line or be disrespectful. We all need to hold each other accountable and help each other grow!
