Last thought for the authors. Words like petted and dived are past tense and are being used incorrectly 99.9999999% of the times that I see them. About the only time you would ever say the word "petted," would be if you were saying something like, "When I got home yesterday, I petted my dog before doing my homework." So basically, it would almost never be said, which is probably why I've never, in my life, heard those words spoken.
