My first proper book on Wattpad (Sweet Lies, Bitter Truths) has been massively rewritten thanks to feedback from:
@n0nsense_verses, @chromedok, @MadisonBennett5, and particularly @Jem776x (amongst others)
It's 20% longer, a little bit funnier, one chapter is a lot spicier, and Alex is less annoying. Paul is still Paul (everyone liked Paul).
For now it is exclusively available on Kindle:
US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FXP1THG8
UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FXP1THG8
ES: https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0FXP1THG8
I've been writing for thirty years and this has been the most incredible year thanks to all of your support.
In the meantime, please check out Heist, Hoaxes, and Other Hijinks - I'm just starting to explain the many, many, many threads.
and
Stitches In Time - that's just getting going, and will update when I think of what happens next.
You are all awesome. Back in 2026 (or sooner, if I get restless.)

@MadisonBennett5 oh you are so awesome! There is a glitch on one page where the font goes weird. Amazon assure me it’s fixed but sometimes it takes a while to update across every version.

I just published something under Different Every Night and wondering if you would give your opinion. It’s really the most difficult and unsettling thing I’ve written, but I value your feedback writer-to-writer. It’s called The Pharmacist Who Loved Me. If you don’t want to post comments publicly, my email is differenteverynight@hotmail.com. Also, no pressure if you don’t want to read it that’s totally fine and understandable.

I’ve just hit Publish on ‘The Copy? Of The Painting’ - the chapter of Heists, Hoaxes, and Other Hijinks that’s filled me with more anxiety than every other chapter put together.
It’s a romance story from the female POV. Never done that before.
Feedback is always welcome. Even if you hate it.
I’ve thrown out my carefully regimented publication schedule as I have a Christmas gift planned. More on that later.

@n0nsense_verses I often wake early, check my phone, and go back to sleep. This morning I led awake for an hour trying to remember if American pubs sold ‘pints’.

@ConsciousRoyal I woke up in the middle of the night to check the time (...and wattpad) and you completely wrecked my sleep. Guess I won't be operating any heavy machinery today!

Turned out ‘later’ was an hour.
Enjoy “Cons, Carols and Christmas Capers” a short Christmas spin-off of the main mystery.
The stories are standalone, but one will have repercussions in the main book.

Good morning (when you see this). Hypothetically, if Joe wanted to go make bad decisions with his friend Simon on a Friday night, would he say “fancy a drink later?” I can’t tell if that’s a normal thing to say to a friend or super girly sounding. I might just rephrase it. But I’m 20 chapters in and he hasn’t “fancied” anything. I was led to believe that the English fancy things constantly.

@n0nsense_verses Thank you. Sorry. Your comment meant I needed to put my phone done for a while. I mentioned before that my dad died (it was more than five years ago but comments like yours make me remember how much I miss him) He wasn't a romantic man, but he was a true old-fashioned gentleman. Still miss him. But please don't apologise these are happy memories.

@ConsciousRoyal Your consistent disdain for men who treat women disrespectfully is very endearing. I get the impression you had good parents. (Sorry, not writing related.)

I woke up this morning and suddenly knew how Heists, Hoaxes and Other Hijinks is going to end.
I’ve always known whodunnit, I’ve finally realised howdunnit and whydunnit. I do realise the risk of publishing a serialised murder mystery that I’m trying to solve at the same time as the readers.
I first wrote about Mrs Tavistock and her dog discovering a body more than twenty years ago, and it feels odd to finally have it resolved.
In my head at least (I still have to wrap up the theft of a painting, the rise and fall of Jagged Penny and the Diamond Roses, and the mystery of what’s in storage locker 20.)
On and on and on. Thank you for joining me.

@ConsciousRoyal Love the idea of you going about your Wednesday thinking about murder blood :) Whatever you come up with will be brilliant, obviously. I admire the self-control it takes to have 3-4 chapters written and not immediately publish them.

@n0nsense_verses I’m writing about three or four chapters ahead of real time. So I can adjust the story as I go, which is why I’m sticking to a rigid weekly release. It also forces me to work out the details. And this morning I woke trying to work out how much blood would be on the murderer’s clothes. That’s probably not healthy. I’ve always known what the end would be but yesterday I had a clear idea of how to satisfyingly tie the remaining threads together. I’m feeling pretty pleased with myself - I just hope the readers will be too. 10ish more weeks and I’ll find out!

@ConsciousRoyal The fact that you've been publishing chapters this whole time without knowing this information is highly entertaining to me. Must feel wild after having the story kicking around in your head for so long. For me, writing for people in real time seems to force paths to appear in a way that doesn't happen when I'm crafting it by myself, even if I try to plan it methodically. I don't know if that's the same for you. But I'm SO excited about this. :)

Howdy!
Quick question for my non-British readers. (Which is most of you)
How familiar are you with the British show “I’m A Celebrity… … Get Me Out of Here”?
ConsciousRoyal
@MadisonBennett5 Sort of, close enough for the reference to work I think. Thanks.

For what it’s worth, there was a US version here in the early 2000s. I distinctly recall one of JLo’s ex husbands was a contestant

Colin, come back! I need to know the meaning of the word pillock!
ConsciousRoyal
@n0nsense_verses perfect. Joe and Ben have that friend relationship where they would call each other a pillock for doing something stupid.

@ConsciousRoyal OH HI! Yes, that helps. I had Ben calling Joe one and wasn't sure if it was too harsh. I think it's probably fine for my use. All British slang sounds made-up to me so it's nice to have it confirmed by a real person, haha

I’m back!
Pillock is a light British rude word to call someone who’s done something stupid. Variations are “a bit of a pillock”, “a right pillock” or “a complete pillock”
It’s probably a little too rude for children’s TV, but wouldn’t be surprising for early evening family TV.
Does that help?
