The way that I would go about it (you don’t have to take any of my suggestions, it is your work after all and you have to do what works for you) is having a complete character list and making sure that’s all out of the way before you dive into the rest of the book.
In terms of time skips you can used words such as “a few moments later” “ten minutes had passed” etc. This helps with the fluidity of words and helps readers understand more clearly. Another thing that I do before I publish is have someone look over what I wrote and ask for brutal honesty. Then I go over it again.

I just finished reading your story, and I have to say it has SO much potential. You’ve created an engaging world and characters that really stand out. With a bit of fine-tuning (i.e. cleaning up the content, sharpening the storyline, smoothing out the time jumps and POV switches, and polishing the grammar) it’s going to shine even brighter.
