After completing a bachelor's in Fiction Writing at Columbia College Chicago and being gripped by wanderlust that took me to the desert of Tucson, Arizona, I can now be found freelancing adventure articles for regional and national magazines, teaching English at a local high school, and scouring the mountains for adventure. After visiting Rome I became obsessed with the ancient ideas of cultural engineering, suppression, and decay that guided me to begin THE CARTOGRAPHER'S DAUGHTER.

Addicted to research, my writing process digs up historical inspirations to breathe life to old knowledge. The fifteenth-century reach of the Chinese tribute system became an inspiration for the Imperial City; Civil-War female spies were resurrected in the character of my underground spymaster Elizabeth Bowen. THE CARTOGRAPHER'S DAUGHTER is a young adult novel that blends dystopian fiction with ancient Roman influences in a fast-paced read that questions who should be the keepers of knowledge and asks how well we can ever know the people we love.
