It's an ONC celebration of a different variety. Life is But a Vale of Tears (last year's shortlisted entry) is now a full length novel, and it is COMPLETE.

          	https://www.wattpad.com/story/389375075-life-is-but-a-vale-of-tears

This book baby is my fifth complete novel on Wattpad and seventh total. It clocks in at 104K words. It has about 30 chapters, three parts, two POVs, and a few fun WP bells and whistles, like the poll I'm putting together at the end.

I'll spend the next few month polishing it up for the Wattys and Ambys, and we'll see from there. I have four different series to push out sequels for, but rest assured, LIBAVOT is on that list, and it could very well jump ahead of some of the others. It's certainly not good at waiting its turn. ;)

Enjoy the rest of ONC season. Good luck finishing up! And if it's not really finished, that's cool, too. The best may be yet to come. :)

@Fairytale_Fabler For me, I always start a project with the mindset that this will be one standalone story. And then the ideas start coming, and before I know it, I have at least four books planned for the series. XD

Good luck to you, too! So many ideas, so little time...

@katiegoesmew THANK YOU. So glad this notification thing is working too (I've had my doubts). Yeah, those "middle children" in epic series are always the hardest to plot (at least for me). That's probably why I've gone out of my way to avoid them. Plus, I've spent a decent chunk of my life trying to avoid the "one trick pony" thing. I'm easily distractible as well (ONC, and whatnot). I guess this is the result! Best of luck to you trying to manage all that. You are not alone!

@Fairytale_Fabler Congratulations! I'm glad I'm not the only person with 4 ongoing series. XD

There are some new Wattpad features, but I'm not convinced the old ones are working, so, "Hi everyone, there's a LIBAVOT update!"

          https://www.wattpad.com/story/389375075-life-is-but-a-vale-of-tears

And there's good news! This ONC2025 novella is one chapter away from being "complete" as a novel. It's been one heck of a year, and through some personal peaks and valleys, I'm glad I didn't abandon it for other pursuits.

What does everyone think of the new/old social feed? I never liked that they took it away. I thought it gave people an incentive to use the platform for both business and pleasure. It's another avenue for those hidden gems to get discovered. If you have a fun comment, both reader and writer will shine. I'm a fan and plan to use it more, now that I'm almost done with LIBAVOT. I hope to see you there soon!

A long overdue "coup d'etat" brings LIBAVOT, last year's ONC entry, to a dramatic novel-length conclusion (almost).

If you know the "who," you might be able to figure out the "why." If you have no idea what I'm talking about, but you're curious enough to read this, then this one's for you, too!

See what a year of ups and downs can do to an ONC entry that wasn't abandoned after "the end". . .

Happy writing, everyone! I won't be commenting much, but I will be around, dropping votes for stories that catch my attention, ONC or whatever.

What are your works-in-progress this season and why are they special to you? Feel free to post/discuss. Is this your first novel/novella? Your first ONC? Your 10th? What's your motivation? A thrilling victory? A devastating loss? A new or everlasting love of Wattpad? PLEASE. Let me know...

Fairytale_Fabler

@AnnSepino -- I still feel that ONC pull, but resisting has felt like the better option for me this year. I haven't had good chemistry with any the prompts and don't miss the battle with the clock, even if I get a lot more done that way. I never like to cut my characters short, and that's probably why I've never hit that sweet spot for this competition. In general, I have too much to say. Oh well. There's always next year. Best of luck TO YOU this year! I always love your unique viewpoint and "effortless" style.

@Fairytale_Fabler Oh my goodness, it's almost complete?! I'm so excited! I love that you're taking your time with your stories. I think doing this instead of rushing through the plot gives writers plenty of opportunities to flesh out their characters. ONC is perhaps the one time of the year that I try to strictly stick to a deadline. ^w^

@Fairytale_Fabler This my first time entering ONC. The story I'm writing started as a joke between friends on Discord, but there reached a point when I thought, "I have to write this." It's a Wattpad parody, "Rejected by the CEO Alpha Mafia Boss." Idk if I'll meet the deadlines for ONC this year because of personal stuff, but I'll definitely finish this story. :D

And meanwhile, I'm also trying to finish Act 1 of "A Beast's Tale," which is a fanfiction and part of a massive passion project, while also editing the third draft of "The Hidden Crystal" offline, getting it ready for publication (eventually).

And you can probably tell why I'm unsure about meeting deadlines. XD

Thank you for voting for my ONC 2026 story. I hope you change your mind and decide to join in! :)

Fairytale_Fabler

Thanks, @elveloy , and great work so far! I admit, I was having a "moment" last night. Then I looked at the prompts (for the second time) and wasn't feeling the chemistry, and then my excuses for not doing it got pretty loud again. Ask me a week from now, and it's possible I'll have a different answer. It's a very emotional time. ;)

"One man's trash is another man's treasure." It's a lesson I'm happy to have learned at the close of the 2025 contest season. The dark (rejected) horse (Where It Ends) comes in for an unexpected "Grand Favorite" win at the Ambys!

I'd like to congratulate all Ambys Favorites and Grand Favorites, and wish all 2026 contest enthusiasts the best of luck.

ONC is always very tempting for me, but I've decided to finish last year's entry (Life is but a Vale of Tears) at my own pace. It's now just shy of 100K. I've posted one of my final updates this morning. And a sequel is more than just a possibility. I'd hate to lose momentum so close to the finish line.

My own family history got me doing some research. The Wuthering Heights contest got me doing some writing. I wasn't on the market for more to do this winter, but the chemistry was undeniable. The timing was "Lucky," I guess. I hope you enjoy this short piece of historical fiction.

Please drop me a note of you're participating, too. I'll gladly move your story to the top of my reading list. :)

Thank you for adding In This Dark Alone to your reading list! Are you writing something for the Wuthering Heights contest too?

Fairytale_Fabler

You’re very welcome! I’m looking forward to reading it. I’m working on a little something, but Christmas is chaos and it’s not up yet. It’ll probably be finished closer to the deadline. Thank you for asking and good luck!
