Hey, guys! I need help right now working on character backstories for my newest Octonauts story.
I’m trying to finalize my main characters’ sad backstories where it later gives them this kind of core fear they bring later on in the present, yeah, something like that.
Can you guys give me any tips or ideas how to make a good backstory without torturing the character emotionally/mentally and at the same time, keeping them in their character? This is still a fanfic, that’s why.
I’ve read a lot of Octonauts fanfics and some of the backstories weren’t the kinds I was looking for. Either too sad or ending them up out of character.

@Calyp50 I’m trying to decide if this backstory should be family-based or something else like being bullied. But part of his backstory that I already made was that his little sister died from drowning (I have a lot of ideas for how she drowned and I’m also still stumped lol). Can I move this to fanfic.net dms? Lol this is gonna be long
