Jennifer Walters was a shy woman who began her law career in Los Angeles, she was an assertive woman in the courtroom, but in her personal life lacked confidence.

One day, on the same day that her cousin, Bruce, was visiting, she was shot by a goon of a crime boss who Jennifer was defending a snitch to help seal his fate during the trial. As there were no other donors with her blood type, her cousin gave her a blood transfusion, his radioactive blood turned her into She-Hulk.

After learning to control her transformations, Jennifer has grown more comfortable in her Hulk form as opposed to ber "less impressive" human form, still struggling with her self confidence.
