OK so, it suddenly occurred to me that maybe Billy died thinking he has successfully saved his sister and her friend without knowing that the said sister would later on go into depression and have constant nightmares and then have all her bones broken by an interdimensional monster and lay in hospital while her mind is trapped in the said monster's mind for a year and a half. And the sister's friend would then go on to sacrifice herself and die in an explosion so that the others live.
