Ivory Madison is an author, editor, and writing expert who has been published by Oxford University Press, Harvard Business Review, and DC Comics. She is the CEO and Publisher of Astor & Lenox. Madison guest-lectures at Stanford and is on the founding team of the Bay Area Book Festival.
She wrote Huntress: Year One, a feminist-mafia-superhero-noir graphic novel for DC Comics, which was named "Best Graphic Novel of the Decade" by one random person on Twitter.
Madison was the CEO and founder of Red Room, a global social media and book sales platform for thousands of successful, traditionally published and self-published authors. Red Room was featured in O: The Oprah Magazine, Vanity Fair, and the cover of Publishers Weekly. The company was acquired by Wattpad, the largest community of readers and writers in the world.
Previously, Madison founded the Red Room Writers Society, a writing program in San Francisco, where she personally helped hundreds of writers finish their books, and was named “Best Writing Coach” by San Francisco magazine.
Madison also earned a juris doctorate. She was Editor in Chief of her law school's law review, interned at the California State Supreme Court, and was a law fellow for Americans United for Separation of Church & State.
Madison served as a management and communications consultant to Fortune 500 companies like Gap, Inc., startups like Serena & Lily, and has been a mentor at the Lean Startup Conference and Startup Weekend.
Often noted as an expert on writing, editing, the future of publishing, social media, and entrepreneurship for authors, Madison has delivered keynote addresses at numerous writer's conferences including USC and Stanford, and led writing retreats in Tuscany.
Not really born in 1984, she selects that year on drop-down menus both as a tribute to George Orwell and an insult to death. Madison lives in an old Victorian in San Francisco with her wonderful husband and children, and a lot of books.
