say his name: daunte wright *please educate yourself on his story! will add any important links in replies daunte wright was a 20-year-old man who was fatally shot by police in brooklyn center, minnesota, only a few miles from where officer derek chauvin is currently on trial for the murder of george floyd. a driver was pulled over by police for a traffic violation and determined to have an outstanding warrant, according to police. when officers attempted to arrest the driver, they "re-entered the vehicle." an officer subsequently fired at the driver, causing their vehicle to travel several blocks and strike another vehicle. the driver (later identified as daunte by his mother, katie wright) died at the scene. on video, his mother said: "he called me at about 1:40, said he was getting pulled over by the police" in the vehicle gifted to him only 2 weeks ago by his family. "he said they pulled him over because he had air fresheners hanging from his rearview mirror." "i said when the police officer comes back to the window . . . i will give him the insurance information. then i heard the police officer come to the window and say, 'put the phone down and get out of your car.' and daunte said, 'why?' and he said, 'we'll explain to when you get out of the car.'" "i heard the phone either get put on the dashboard or dropped, and i heard scuffling, and i heard the police officer say, daunte, don't run,' and then the other officer said, 'put the phone down' and hung it up" before his girlfriend called her crying and showed his lifeless body in the driver's seat. she said she "asked them to please take my son off the ground," but police at the scene said the body could not be moved until the bureau of criminal apprehension arrived.
