I am so incredibly proud to present to you my latest Buzzfeed Unsolved one shot:  Aokigahara. This piece is an idea that I came up with and wrote a long long time ago, but just as I was finishing up my final edits, Logan Paul’s infamous Suicide Forest incident happened and I felt that it would be wrong to publish this at the time. Since then, I have grown as both a person and as a writer. I’ve recently struggled with depression and anxiety and have come out with a greater understanding of what it’s like to be consumed by both. What you will read has been entirely rewritten from its original draft to be more mindful of and bring awareness to the sensitive topic. The writing that I present to you today is highly inspired by Silvia Plath’s ‘The Bell Jar’ and the way that she uses blunt, graphic descriptions to fully immerse the reader in what it truly feels like to suffer from mental illness. While I may not possess the same level of skill as her, I hope that you read this with an open mind and find a deeper understanding of what many people experience today.           Ryan's puzzled look faded into a sad frown.
          
          "Maybe they go to therapy and do the talking and take the medication and do everything by the book and maybe none of it ever works. Maybe it's just easier here."
          
          "Shane," Ryan started, but was cut off by a rustling sound to our left. "Oh my god!"
          
          He jumped and shoved himself against me, taking fistfuls of my shirt in his hands. I put one arm around him and, with the other, whipped my flashlight in the direction of the disturbance.

          Ryan gave me a puzzled look.
          
          "You want me to hold your hand?"
          
          "Oh! No! Not if you don't want to! I just um- I uh..." I stumbled over my words.
          
          Without another question, Ryan took my hand in his own again and led me down the path, shining his flashlight ahead to illuminate the towering trees.

          "Shane?"
          
          Ryan's voice caught my attention and I looked down to see my hand, still tightly clenched around his wrist. Silently, I stared at it, feeling unable to move or let go. The air seemed to be weighing me down, paralyzing me.
          
          "Shane, are you ok?"
          
          I took a deep breath and finally managed to release my tight grip on Ryan. Rubbing away the red marks I'd left, he leaned his head against my chest. I wrapped both arms around him and he looked up at me with his beautiful brown eyes.

The world may disapprove
          But my world is only you
          And if we’re sinners then it feels like heaven to me.

But he kept it all inside his head
          What he saw he left unsaid
          and though he wanted to
