A neo-gothic diary novel series that takes the reader from the early decades of the twentieth century to a fateful event in the not-too-distant future, through the notes and letters of a morose gentleman, a devoted maid, a rhapsodic actress, a dishonest inspector, a sickly photojournalist, a devilish child, a jovial boxer, a characterful archaeology professor, a steadfast soldier, a distinguished military officer, a notorious serial killer and many others.
