James Wan on filming, "Saw".

That was part of my aesthetic that I was going for. I wanted to make the film really claustrophobic and way I was going to do that was every time we go to a new location. I'm not going to set it up using an establishing shot. You don't see a house and then cut to the inside of the house. You cut to inside, to inside, to inside.

Alfred Hitchcock on "The Fine Line Between Tragedy and Comedy."

For example, how often would we see, years ago, in the fashion scene of the man walking towards the open manhole cover and of course, he has to wear a top hat. Cause that's the symbol of dignity, you see. You watch him and he walks. He's reading a newspaper and suddenly he disappears down the hole.

And everybody roars with laughter. But supposing you took a second look down that hole. His head is cut. He's bleeding. They send for an ambulance. His wife rushes to the hospital. Think how ashamed that audience is. That they laughed in the first place and yet they do. Slipping on a banana skin is very painful. So, there's a streak of cruelty among everyone.

Well, it's not exactly cruelty. It's kind of an enjoyment in knowing that they'll enjoy themselves in that peculiar way, at that time.

I call it dipping their toe in the cold waters of fear.

"Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life, and it is the main obstacle between you and a shitty first draft. I think perfectionism is based on the obsessive belief that if you run carefully enough, hitting each stepping stone-stone just right, you won't have to die. The truth is that you will die anyway and that a lot of people who aren't even looking at their feet are going to do a whole lot better than you, and have a lot more fun while they're doing it." - Anne Lamott, "Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life"

I've been hearing a lot of, "Man, I wish I could do photography, film, write, dance or be strong."

I tell them, "Do what you can with what you have."

          Waiting for that ideal camera...
Waiting for the inspiration to hit you...
Waiting for the perfect body, so you can start working out at the gym...

You're going to spend your whole life waiting. When you could have used that time to improve yourself. While the person next to you is making progress and going further.

You have already defeated yourself by thinking, "What if I fail? What will others think about me?"

          Don't think. Do.

The mind is powerful. If it is strong enough to keep you down, it is strong enough to push you forward.
