For world coronation series will be canon as well...but uhh it's just semi-tournament plan after paldea arc..the tournament of legend still a main tournament for every 40 bloodthirsty trainer and their pokemon.
For tournament of legend will be different because it will be 40 trainers round robin tournament and additional with appeal round too where 40 of them must do contest stage...
The appeal round also will give extra point for them to win the tournament of legends too.

1. even though Leon is the undefeated champion, he once lost to chase once during his visit in kanto when ash was 8 years old...
The battle was intense six vs six that happens in cerulean cave, only few people has saw Leon lost for the first time which is James, meowth and jessie. even Leon's OP Rillaboom couldn't defeated chase's Raichu due to how op the Raichu is. Leon think that chase is a trainer that should be avoided if he saw him again.
