“Elena,” I say softly, my voice cutting through the gentle rhythm of raindrops around us.
She glances up from the book she’s clutching, her hair damp from the mist curling through the air. “Yeah?”
“It’s raining,” I say, as though she hasn’t already noticed.
Her lips curve into a teasing smile, her dark eyes sparkling despite the storm. “I know.”
“Dance with me,” I murmur, the words heavy with meaning, even though my tone is steady.
Her eyes widen, a mix of disbelief and curiosity flickering across her face. Her fingers trail absently along the edges of the rain-soaked pages in her hand, but she doesn’t answer—not at first.
Finally, she speaks, her voice softer now, tinged with something unspoken. “You don’t dance.”
I take a step closer, the rain soaking through my shirt, but I don’t care. My voice is low and certain as I reply: “I do with you.”
