Poinsettiahoinsettia

Heyo heyo heyo! A lot of academic work going on in my life has passed. Now that I have a lot more time on my hands, inspirations have been coming my way. I am delighted to announce that 'By the Canal' (from my old account @JeLisLesLivres ) has started going through some planning. Today I made a random list of doodles, planning, and bob on plots, characters and scenes. I aim for this story to bring to readers an insight on my take on how time flows, either cruelly or mercifully.

I have developed a new plot to the story that is very different to my original one on @JeLisLesLivres. Ludovico Romano's story will involve themes of longing, coming of age, family, and generational contrast, and making possibly questionable decisions around Italy. But hey, they lead to some great stories to tell.

It is time we return to Venice!
'By the Canal' is having a revival!

@Poinsettiahoinsettia Ah, it would be interesting to see how his past shapes the person Ludovico is today. I am currently reading 'The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds" from the Hunger Games series and that the book serves to build upon President Snow's character (he is elderly in the 1st book) with who he was in the past as an 18 year old. Such character reflection definitely brings more nuance to the person they are now because a lot can change in one's life, comparing the attitude and opinions they had then. I wonder if his apprentice will have will have character development, or will they serve to be his generational foil?

@Poinsettiahoinsettia Good questions, from what I've come up with so far the story is primarily set in present day Venice, but certain events trigger flashbacks that explain how he is the way he is in the present day.

A tiny spoiler, Ludovico works as a full time gondolier, a.k.a he brings tourists for boat rides across the Venetian canals. He is quite stern, but takes on a young apprentice gondolier (hence the generational contrast) who slowly chips away at Ludovico's stern side. This makes Ludovico reminisce about his past, leaving his home city Rome, and trying to make his own ends meet across Italy before settling in Venice and making a living there until his 60's.

It won't be a linear story, it'd be very interwoven with the present plot. I hope to make my best efforts with this story. Been thinking about the idea of a story about Venice since 2018. A day is closer to having that happen.

@Poinsettiahoinsettia I'm looking forward to what you will have cooked up for 'By the Canal'! Will Ludovico spend most of the time reminiscing his past, or will it be interwoven with the present plot? Or is going to be something different all together when it comes to narration?
