These Texas outages were wild, personally I had about 6 hours of power throughout 3 days. It’s so weird showering by light of a flashlight, and cooking in the dark was straight out of Life As We Knew It. Seriously, all I could think about between Monday and Wednesday were those books.
It was so cold in the garage, we used it as the fridge/freezer. Electrical fridges can only retain their coldness for about four hours. We did have some frozen exterior pipes, but nothing burst so yay for us.
School was canceled the entire week since almost no one had consistent power (and therefore internet), and most of DFW and Tarrant County is under water conversation orders, as well as boil water notices since some water treatment plants lost power and theres some contaminated water going around. Luckily the boil water notices are slowly being lifted. There’s also some gas conservation orders out and about, since people were using their gas lines to warm up or cook.
Of course, the wealthier areas of Texas (Highland Park, Farmers Branch etc) either didn’t participate in the “rolling blackouts” or lost power for just 30min a day, whereas areas like South Dallas and others didn’t have power AT ALL.
It’s been a strange week. The snow was fun, though. My dogs enjoyed it, especially when they figured out they could eat it. I hope this was informative or interesting. I don’t mind sharing some crazy things about Texas occasionally.
