FROM THE VAULT: Fire from the Sea (In Tharbad: Volume One) by @arteithon

We're back with our weekly exploration of Wattpad's Tolkien fanfics. This time, we're taking a look at one of R. Teithon's fabulous fics. Who, by the way, is a criminally underrated writer on here in the fandom. Go give them a follow, you won't regret it. They have so many wonderful, completed stories.

Written in 2021, Fire from the Sea takes place in the Second Age of Arda. Tharbad still stands, a Númenorean town that is home to cultural flashes, murder mysteries, and of course, Siriondil of Mithlond sent to help investigate.

If you want to explore Middle Earth beyond the bounds of the main stories or movies, this is a great place to start. Tharbad is in ruins by Lord of the Rings. But what did it look like before?

Can't wait to check back in next week!

FROM THE VAULTS: The Last Elf Queen of Arda by @GreenScholarTales

For our first official fanfic recommendation, Project Tolkien brings you this fantastic, 2018 tale of Mirkwood. Who was Legolas's mother? How did she come to marry King Thranduil of the woodland realm?

GreenScholarTales has been an inspiration for many Tolkien writers who joined the Wattpad fandom in the wake of the Hobbit movies. She has works not just of fanfiction, but also incredibly rich fantasy stories. Not nearly as active on Wattpad these days as she used to be, we wanted to reach deep in the vault and present this to the newer Wattpadians to enjoy as well.

Mae Govannen friends!bA few announcements from Project Tolkien.

First, I hope you've had a chance to look through all four parts of our guidebook. There you can share your thoughts on some of the ideas posed there either by me (@Silmarilz1701) or in the comments by fellow Tolkien fans!

Second, how would we feel about having community one shot anthologies? I could see this happening two different ways, they'll both could happen at the same time.

We could have one anthology book that accepted rolling submissions of Tolkien One-Shots by community members. Those one shots do not have to be exclusive to this account, as in, feel free to upload them to your own as well, but I think a message at the top directing readers to the Project Tolkien account would be great. Rolling admissions would mean there's no overall, interconnected theme. As you write a one shot, you can send it our way (I would suggest a google doc link over discord).

The other anthology book style would be themed one shots. We could have a Tolkien Week (Sept 21-27) one shot collection, a Fëanorian Week in March 2026, a 12 Days of Christmas collection, etc. people could sign up for days or characters in advance OR we could do rolling admission.

          Thoughts?

Don't forget to tell your friends about what we're doing here! We've got our Lord of the Rings book club starting in August, and if that is a hit, we'll do a Sillmarillion one as well!

          Any other suggestions?

@ProjectTolkien Perhaps when the community grows a little. I'm still trying to finish books from my old book club partners. It was a great place to make friends. I was really sad when the founders closed it.

@vykiknighthadley Those are great ideas, and ones I've considered myself! I don't think we have the people required for a full conmunity book club, but I'd like to do some more interactive stuff regarding promoting or introducing Tolkien fanfic writers. Potentially an interview book of sorts.

@ProjectTolkien, I think the book club idea is great. I also think it might be nice to have a community book club where we read and comment on each other's stories, and those of us with a good deal of Lore knowledge could help those who perhaps only have movie knowledge, etc, and who want to level up their stories to include book lore but feel overwhelmed or need support, perhaps with 1:1 support/peer mentoring or competitions—just throwing some ideas out there. as a side, I am hoping at some point to do some lore videos from a writer's perspective on YouTube at some point. But as a SEND mum, I have to fit things around the needs of my youngest.

Just a thought I had, but we could potentially do something like discord or amino (if that is still running) to help with communications since wattpad no longer has the messaging section. If that is something others would like to ‘add to the experience’.

We could also utilize them for other things as well:
-getting chapters proof-read by someone before they are published here
          -tag-teaming a story
-sharing ideas (like is people doing the plot bunnies want to ask the idea-creator questions
-giving and finding art inspiration or cover artists.
-probably way more than I can possibly think of.

@EndellionHolly Definitely some good stuff for the future!! I have a lot of experience running discords, but I think I will wait until we're further along for that! For now, comments in Wattpad will suffice but the desire for a discord is duly noted :D
