Born and brought up in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, Ram Krishna Singh has been teaching English language skills to students of earth and mineral sciences at a leading technical university in India for over three decades. He has also been writing poetry, especially haiku and tanka, and has 14 collections, including MY SILENCE AND OTHER SELECTED POEMS (1996), ABOVE THE EARTH'S GREEN ( 1997), EVERY STONE DROP PEBBLE (1999), COVER TO COVER (2002), PACEM IN TERRIS (2003), THE RIVER RETURNS (2006), SEXLESS SOLITUDE AND OTHER POEMS (2009), SENSE AND SILENCE: COLLECTED POEMS (2010), NEW AND SELECTED POEMS TANKA AND HAIKU (2012), and I AM NO JESUS AND OTHER SELECTED POEMS, TANKA AND HAIKU (2014 to his credit.

His poems have been anothologized in over 150 publications and translated into French, Spanish, Romanian, Chinese, German, Japanese, Slovene, Bulgarian, Italian, Portuguese, Greek, Serbian, Croatian, Arabic, Farsi, Crimean Tatar, Esperanto, Kannada, Tamil, Bangla,Punjabi, and Hindi. A full length book on his poetry, NEW INDIAN ENGLISH POETRY: AN ALTERNATIVE VOICE: R.K.SINGH (ed. I.K.Sharma), published in 2004, provides a comprehensive assessment of his creativity since the 1970s. Another significant study, R.K.SINGH'S MIND AND ART: A SYMPHONY OF EXPRESSIONS (by Rajni Singh),which appeared in 2011, contains 21 critical articles from scholars from India and abroad. His works have also been explored in a couple of doctoral and postgraduate theses.
