I tried to write my first novel at the age of eleven. It was a story filled with bizarre acts of incest and murder. I'd like to point out, before you judge me too soon, that I was heavily influenced by the 70s-80s writer Virginia Andrews at the time.
The reason I introduce myself thusly (see, I know big words) is that my writing is what it is. I write the stories I want to read, just like Toni Morrison told us we should. They flow on a spectra of drama, pain, love, action, angst and ultimately reality such as I see it.
Whenever someone asks me what I write I almost always say "shitty, smutty romance" whilst somewhat joking. The truth is that yes, I write kitschy stuff, I write sex, I write hunky men with abs and messy hair.
But, the difference between me and the millions of other hopefuls is that I enjoy the devastation and depravity of life as it is. Love is never instant nor uncomplicated, relationships are dirty yet beautiful. And people? Yeah, people usually suck and are flawed in ways that usually don't lend themselves to romance. But I try to make that thing work.
So, if you are a romantic, you like pretty yet flawed men, women who ask twice before diving headfirst and stories about life, I might be your cup of tea.
This is just something I do, some people run on treadmills or knit, I write about love and life.
Also, I suck at synopsis-writing, sorry about that.
Give it a shot or not, no pressure from here. But if you give it a whirl, let me know what you think, I'll always listen.
