I am writing 2nd book during nanowrimo only managed 559 words today. But #Iamwriting and those 500 words hurt but it's a start right? Anyone recommend any good groups also writing this month as part of the challenge?

The final chapter of FlipFlops is up PLUS my first attempt at the first chapter of Ren's story.

Help needed! Any Americans out there who can tell me whether or not you use the phrase "Don't go off half-cocked"  ???
          It's a phrase I want to use in my story, but not sure if it's just an English thing? 
          It originates from the use of firearms when the gun was half-cocked and so would misfire. Any help very much appreciated!

            It means to speak or act prematurely, to do something without being fully prepared. 
            
            Regardless of whether it's used outside the UK, I think it's a phrase more popular with an older generation, so on reflection, I'm not going to use it.

@SarahNixy Hi Sarah! Hope it's not too late to weigh in. I am American and have never heard that phrase. Nor has my husband (he's an English teacher and avid reader!) It's certainly a nice phrase, tho! ;)
            
            Not totally clear on the meaning, but do you mean something like "he did it half-assed" meaning that "he did a sloppy job and wasn't trying hard enough"?  Hope that helps!

A longer chapter this week. Ren's 18th Birthday party is a three ringed circus and Jay gets to meet the family. I bet she wishes she hadn't.
