I know you feel the story should have ended with shiv somehow learning and changing himself but if that would have happened then it would have been just a fiction not reality.

About the ending , it is the ending of lot of womens who were abused but anuradha she is still better. I am not justifying but the story is set in a way which makes me have a different about it . If this book would have been set in today,s era mind you I would have reported it myself.

Hey ! I am personally messaging you because I feel it,s more mature to explain our sides to each other rather than fighting baselessly .
          The trope is set for 80s , It,s not exactly a fiction rather it,s a mirror of what it exactly used to be . 
          You are right, writers do have the power to bring revolutions but this is also true that if you are just showing the past through a story then it,s much less than what we expect to read and see in today's era. 
          It,s true all womens should have high expectations but they also depend on what you are reading. Shiv did care for anuradha. It,s just both men and women of that era were never taught anything,  especially marital rape. It,s true shiv did that but both were unaware of this since they never learned. Shiv never asked and anuradha never denied. 
          Visually watching something is much more than reading it but if this story would have been a short story , I still would have seen it beacuse it,s a mirror of society which is shown through two characters.  If this story  really is a story which is written to explore much more than remitting about the past then for sure the ending is wrong but if it,s not then the ending is what it should be . I never had and never will justify rape but these concepts do apply with certain conditions.  I am sure you must have old people in your house , ask them , how things exactly were back in time.
