@appledailey It's a good gig if you can get it. I was unable to get an agent, but later found a publisher (small press but major distributor) through an unexpected acquaintance. So I'd recommend submitting to publishers that accept unsolicited work; if you have no contacts of your own, Querytracker is a good place to start -- current, vetted info.

@eliyeda It helps if you view your manuscript like a personal trainer views his client's body: There's potential, but it will take a lot of hard work to realize it. The client may be ignorant, have bad habits, or balk when she sees how much effort it takes to slim down or tone up. Writers are the same way. And the ones who complain about "brutal critiques" are like that person at the gym who barely listens to the fitness instructor and then wonders why she's still out of shape.

@eliyeda You're welcome. I think the main difference between successful and unsuccessful writers is the willingness to accept critique. Even Stephen King doesn't write a perfect first draft, but he knows it and that's why he's all ears to his editor.
