How did you get your first book to be so popular?

I usually have too much dialogue, and not enough descriptions of the scene, atmosphere, character feelings and so on. 
            I don't know how I got it to be as popular, I never expected it to be. I only set out to entertain and get across the message that you shouldn't give up on your dreams because you only made it half way. 
            The whole story started off as ten comic pages that I drew when I was bored.

@toastersarecool I haven't read it yet, although I really want to. I've never been that great of a writer. Everyone tells me I am, and I've won a few competitions, but my competition wasn't very steep. I don't feel as good about being the lesser of two evils than I would about being the greater good...I have good ideas, but it'ts hard for me to get them out; my sentence structure is very choppy.
