Greetings,

It took over a week, but Google Play Books has finally removed Emberfall from its sales listings. To say I was thrilled would be an understatement.

Having my work stolen and offered for sale without my permission was a low blow. I was angry, hurt, and frustrated that someone would take advantage of another person's hard work in that way.

When I told my writer friends what had happened, none of them were surprised.

My good friend Patricia A. Jackson, a traditionally published author, has had her work stolen and sold on various websites multiple times. Charlene Newcomb, who publishes through Amazon, has dealt with the same issue. As upsetting as it was to learn, this apparently isn't unusual. It's simply one of the unfortunate realities many authors face.

That said, there is some good news.

Wattpad is an amazing platform. Without it, I never would have written a single story or met so many wonderful people. What many writers don't realize is that the moment you publish your work, it is protected by copyright. Wattpad also provides a record showing when your story was published, which can help prove ownership if someone steals your work.

So please keep an eye on your stories. Check from time to time to make sure your work hasn't appeared somewhere it doesn't belong.

          	And most importantly, keep writing.

          	Not because we have to.

Not because someone might try to steal it.

But because we love telling stories.

          	Much love,

@Space_Queen_Q You should report it to Wattpad as well since Wattpad is supposed to be a secure site, and your story was taken from here. They need to know in case it was somehow mirrorred, which was the case with two of my books. A site called Novel HD took them. One I had entered into a competition where my book wasn't allowed to be published in any way. The competition coordinators searched for each entry and found mine on Novel HD and sent me a letter saying my book wasn't eligible. That was how I found out it had been taken. I was so angry because it also blew my chances in the competition. I'd removed the book from Wattpad to enter, so they'd obviously had it up for a long time. I then discovered a second book of mine on their site. I then searched all my books and found a Spanish site that had taken my short story, Liberty, and were offering it as a free read to those who joined their site. Insert eye roll.
The only positive was that I was still named as the author of each book. It was very distressing. I hope all goes well for you. Xo

Greetings!

Today I found out that Emberfall was pirated and uploaded to Google Play Books. Someone took the time to steal the entire story and try to make money from my hard work.

To say I was shocked is an understatement.

Honestly, I never expected this to happen to me. I'm still learning and growing as a writer, so I never imagined anyone would bother stealing one of my stories.

Apparently, I underestimated both the internet and the value of creative work.

I'm sharing this because I don't want anyone else to be caught off guard. If you have stories published here, please take a few minutes to search for them on Google Play Books and make sure no one has uploaded your work without your permission.

It's an awful feeling, but the more of us who keep an eye out, the better chance we have of protecting our stories.

Take care of yourselves—and your books.

@Space_Queen_Q omg!! I'm so sorry!! What a rotten thing for someone to do. Just today I heard of two other people having their work stolen and put up there. Ridiculous! I l'// check if any of mine are there. Won't be the first time they got stolen.

Before you go to the report page pin the link to your story on your clipboard. You'll need it there. Then go back to the Google books page where you see your book and pin the link to that page as well. In the report you'll place those links in the requested box. The form is easy to fill out and the instructions are easy to understand. It takes about 20 minutes to do it if you pin the links so you don't have to go back and forth. You'll find all the links in the comment on @AprilJester I'm going to put them in the warning book. Because it looks like we are going to need them. I am so sorry about all this. We will all stick together here.

Space_Queen_Q

@WendyyWolfe Thank you for all the tips. I managed to get the report sent. I'm just so SHOCKED that someone would do that. I hope your stories are taken down quickly. And thank you for staying strong while this happens. ❤️

Thank you for adding The Wardens Of The Limes to your library! (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤

Space_Queen_Q

@WendyyWolfe Very welcome. I swore I had it on my list before. I know I planned on reading it. And thank you for adding Emberfall to your list as well. ❤️

Ashpoint

Hi! I just wanted to say that I love the cover of your Emberfall book. If you don't mind, how did you make it? <3

Ashpoint

@Space_Queen_Q Oh, I gotcha!

Yeah, I used AI to make covers a few months ago and they turned out great! But I recently tried again for fun and the covers turned out so much worse, even with the same prompts. I don't know. It's like the system is evolving and not for the better.

I'm glad you managed for make your cover before the downgrade, though. Lol

Greetings @Ashpoint I am glad to hear you like Emberfall's cover. It took a little over 5 hours to get it just right. I used AI since I am not talented with a brush. It's easy to use, but you have to be VERY specific with what you want otherwise it gives you what it believes the genre you are going for tends to use. LOL.
