TheBoundlessSky

Hey everyone. Right now, I'm in-between stories and I'm looking for writing exercises to keep me busy. A few that caught my interest are stream of consciousness writing, writing prompts, and flash fiction. Can anyone suggest any others?

@JMan078 Hey JMan, happy to meet you. I haven't been the most active on Wattpad recently, but I am open to reading some of your keep. Just keep in mind that I might not be the fastest. I'll send you a DM with more details.

Hi! Just read your work and voted accordingly. Well done! If possible could you also take a look at my sci-fi short story? Thanks! https://my.w.tt/yNtYchTnB9

@HC_Leung Good to hear you're revising, that means you love what you do. Let me know when you have a revised draft. No rush with reading my work. Good luck with your venture.

@HC_Leung Sure man. I'm glad you got something out of it... I'm actually in the process of revising it because some sections in the story do not make sense. My schedule's been a bit booked lately so I can't promise I'll get to it immediately, but I'll put your novel on my IOU list.

Hey I just posted another story. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic world like Mad Max or Fallout. It's just been something fun I've been working on. I'm making the entire story up as I go along to see how far it gets me. The chapters I've posted aren't really in a finished state. I'll probably change some details and stuff that doesn't work together as I continue to write it. Just wanted to post it real quick so everyone knows I'm still breathin'.

Quick warning: It has lots of violence, swearing, and there might be some nudity in chapters I haven't posted yet. If that sounds like your cup of tea, it might be for you.

With writing, there is nothing wrong with making mistakes. If someone doesn't like you work that's fine. If you feel there's something you can improve, don't panic. Listen to where you're inspiration takes you. Don't focus so much on how others are better than you, or how long it's taking to write, or compare yourself in a negative way. See the good that is already there, and let your creativity bring it out.

Remember to write out of love instead of for yourself. Sometimes we get lost in future goals like 'trying to make it on Wattpad' or 'becoming famous authors' and forget what brought us here in the first place. When I'm writing for its own sake, and don't grow frustrated about mistakes, or finishing on time, that's what makes writing worthwhile. That love will show in your work and you will give it to others.

Hey everyone! I finished "A Time Story" Chapter 10 just in time for the new year. It's still in an early draft state but revisions will come in the near future. I learned that it is easier to write my ideas down and revise them later than to get it perfect the first try. I was stuck in an editing loop with Chapters 1-9 and needed to stop focusing on perfection in order to finish Chapter 10. This experience taught me a valuable lesson on the writing process.

If you're stuck, don't worry if your story still has plot holes, lacks detail/good pacing/etc., or is just not up to your expectations. It's not the final product. It won't live up to those expectations until it's done. When most of the story is laid out it's easier to correct these mistakes because you can see where your story is going. You may need to revise somewhat since later chapters build upon what happens in the previous ones, but don't feel tied down by it. If it frustrates you, move on to a new part. In fact, if any part of writing frustrates you, move on to something else. I'm going to balance editing and writing new content using what I learned from this experience. Hope this helps anyone who's stuck in a similar situation as I was.

@TheBoundlessSky Good call! You'll never see the whole picture if you don't move on with the story and finish it. As SK said in his writing advice, write your first draft with your instinct. If you don't know a word or a fact, leave a note in the draft, but keep writing, go wild.

            Happy New Year! ❤

After revising for what seems like an eternity, it has occurred to me that the best ideas come to those who wait. If you ever revise your work and you discover a problem you don't know how to fix, it's better to skip it and move on instead of banging your head against the wall. When your obsess over it, you'll probably get frustrated, angry, and the best solutions don't come out of this state of mind. More than likely, they'll be rushed. Your ideas should come out of passion where they are the most creative. Sometimes that creativity comes when you least expect it. Leave it for now and write something else. Maybe get to that next chapter you've been putting off or write something completely new. It will save you the headache.

A Time Story Chapter 3 (parts 1 and 2) have been rewritten for the final time. Will only make minor updates to this chapter moving forward. Will probably make minor adjustments in the next few days to keep lore consistent and squash any unintended vagueness. For now, I'm happy to rest :)
