Holy moly. It's been almost exactly one year since we've posted, and the update is going to be the same as before:

Rumours of our death have been greatly exaggerated, although we are dormant, at least pertaining to guild activity.

The three of us are hip-deep in writing, editing, art, Wattpad activities, and real life. Guild business is therefore taking a back seat until April has wrapped up TEGSA, Sera the turtle has concluded The Golden Age sometime in 2027, and all of us have made a little more progress on our fictional passion projects.

In addition to certifying books as human-written (which will involve two people reading each book in the queue from start to finish and looking for AI tells - em-dashes, "the rule of three," and other basic things are only the tip of the iceberg. Gee, maybe we should publish something on how to spot AI, based on things we've read in industry publications? Must ponder) we are also thinking of creating a "trust library" for Wattpad judges and editors who want to submit collections of their reviews along with their **self-administered** scans proving that those reviews were objectively shown to be human-authored.

Meanwhile, we encourage our followers to browse our SPAGetti booklist and our Genre Writing list for pointers on how to write well without resorting to AI "polish." Because, let's face it, polished and "humanized" rough drafts are not written. They're vibe-coded.

@ladyyomiart - You make me wonder if there are different tells in different languages. If so, maybe we can feature you as a consultant for AI tells in Spanish.

I'm also wondering if there are tells for AI when translation is involved - something originally written get translated by a bot; or even worse, slop is generated, then translated by AI into another language, so it becomes slop x 2.

@TheHumanLeague "Gee, maybe we should publish something on how to spot AI, based on things we've read in industry publications?", I would like to read something like this! ❤ I'm not sure how it is on the English side of the literary world, but on the Spanish side, the two most blatant signs that a novel was AI-generated are the relentless repetition of the term "silence" in oxymoronic and/or nonsensical comparisons ("silences that say a lot", "silences that bring us closer", "silences with weight", "silences that embrace"), paragraphs made up of chopped-up phrases that repeat the same concept in different ways, in addition to the typical "it's not this, it's that", "it's not just this, it's also that", and the passive voice kind of narration that puts the action applied to an object, before the subject who performs said action ("hands caressed the book", instead of "[SUBJECT] caressed the book"). The last one (passive voice) is more acceptable in English, but in Spanish it sounds AWFUL since it's not usually used outside of poetry, which makes it very jarring, haha.

Hello, everybody! We're still around, just busy with life, ONC, the Watty's, TEGSA... You get the picture. Just did a little sprucing up with the guild book, added some pretty graphics, and added a Google form to the Forms chapter for award hosts and judges seeking our assistance. Of course, the form for authors requesting human certification is still there as well.

So... Yep. We're here for anybody who needs us, and we still have plenty we plan to do with this guild, as time, life, and the universe allow. ;)
