THE HUMAN LEAGUE is a guild of Wattpad contest hosts, judges, critics, reviewers, and editors who stand against the use of generative AI in writing. 

We believe that AI can be useful when used to check SPAG, but "polishing," editing, and rewriting are plagiarism. 

We believe that the use of AI has gotten out of hand. All too often, we see authors defending work as "theirs" on the grounds that they wrote the rough draft before a bot "polished" it.  We have also seen authors protesting that it doesn't matter if AI helped complete a story if the original idea for the story was the author's own. We have even seen chatbot profiles on Wattpad publishing "books," then submitting those "books" for review.

This needs to stop.

Our mission is threefold:

1. We seek to educate the general public on what AI is, how AI works, and what is and is not acceptable use of AI. 

2. We want a database of books that have been certified to be human-authored, similar to the database maintained by The Author's Guild (an off-Wattpad organization for literary professionals). 

The best way to get this database is to create it ourselves, and to that effect, we will review any books submitted to us for certification. Books certified to be written and edited by humans will receive a sticker and will be added to a booklist that we maintain. 

3. We will call out AI rewrites and AI book generations when we see them. We reserve the right to take off points on books we judge, and to disqualify books outright if they have been submitted to any of our contests, review shops, etc.

Membership in our guild is by invitation only. However, any author is welcome to submit books for review.
