Chapters 12 and 13 of Bad Break are live! Thanks for your patience friends. I'm having fun unraveling this story, as it brings back so many memories of my time as a journalist.
          
          News writing can be a bit stiff, so I'm trying to untrain myself from that style, if you will. But no complaints. It's a journey! And we're at the phase of Bad Break in which I'm laying a foundation for the investigation to pick up speed.
          
          So, in the two latest chapters, you'll find a couple more storylines ripped from the headlines - things I reported on myself, including a shocking jailbreak by a drug kingpin whose girlfriend smuggled a special set of tools into a visiting room, along with a change of clothes. The two of them strolled out of the jail and out of the front door casually before guards inside realized what had happened. The couple was eventually caught, but they will make the record books for one of the boldest jailbreaks ever!
          
          I'll stop rambling. Enjoy, and more chapters to come over the weekend!

Just posted Chapter 11 of Bad Break! The story continues, as protagonist Blake Wilson continues to catch new murder victims and now is catching heat from city officials who believe his lack of "political" restraints may allow him to get to the bottom of the killings before they can.

Howdy again, people! I've just posted Chapter Nine of Bad Break and am excited about the change of pace the story is on the verge of making. "Fun" facts about chapters eight and nine, by the way: Both have "ripped from the headlines" elements to them from my past as a crime reporter.
          
          Chapter Eight features our protagonist Blake Wilson observing an autopsy at the Medical Examiner's Office and getting some "inside baseball" tips from the coroner about his homicide investigation. When I was a crime reporter, one of my best sources was the chief administrator of the ME's office. He wasn't an investigator or coroner but both liked and trusted him so much that he could, like Caesar give me a thumbs up or down, and they would follow his lead on whether to let me into the autopsy room or sneak a peak at murder investigation files.
          
          Also, the clergyman whose son was shot? Based on a real homicide I covered, in which I learned, upon meeting the victim's father, that the victim's older brothers had both been (fatally) shot in a similar manner. All innocent bystanders.
          
          There will be other lived experiences peppered throughout this story.
